I picked up a small lot of mixed coins today
at a local flea market. When I got home I found this one tiny
coin/medal (It's in the medal not coin position)
1926 liberty $20.00 Sure looks like gold. About half the diameter of a one cent.
Any idea what it may be ?
Thanks.

Yep, a little miniature gold imitation coin, used for jewelery purposes. They're typically 8k gold.

Hi all. Thanks for the info. It's pretty neat. It's in one of those
sealed type flips (no staples) looks Gem. I checked out that ebay
link but the pic. does not load all the way and there was no description/specs. on it. Curious as to where you got the info on the exact gold % (8K) Just seemed an odd % of gold. I realize it's not worth much anyway but just wanted a little more info on them.
It's so tiny. Would at the least make for some conversation.

I got the "8k" info from the dealer that sold me mine back in the 1980's.

Yes, it was basically free to begin with. Odd though, I started looking around on line and I see all diff. kinds of them. The size and
weight are all alike but diff. purities. Some are 8K, 14K and 22K
Ranging from $4 up to $85. Also noticed all of them have roman numerals for the date and mine has 1926. Also on the reverses those I saw have a small box with Copy in it. Mine does not have that. just some indiscernable lettering on the reverse near the bottom of the coin. Maybe mine is the 22K version ? Half a gram is $15.00+ anyway
melt.

... are the markings IMM(International Monetary Mint)? Probably 14kt and may have originally had a case.

The sealed flip types should indicate the kt printed on it but may have worn off... typically 8kt.

I would not buy an unmarked as to kt content modern mini like these. The are typically electro-plate or heavy gold electro-plate(h.g.e.). They would require to be marked if they had significant(varies) puriy. Sellers re-selling bulk purchases are selling what they've been told... the 14kt, 22kt, etc are still probably plated.

Well, I got something in a junk lot recently that fits this thread. I got five mini St. Gaudens pieces in a single 2 X 2. I already had one from many years ago (about 25 years back). However, all of mine are dated MCMVII (1907). The ones I just got are labeled as being gold plated, in which case the actual gold content would be essentially nothing. However, this got me thinking, might I have some actual gold here?

Edit: Just noticed, the single one I have had for years is 10 mm and weighs .55 g. The 5 I got recently are 11.5 mm and also weigh .55 g.

Note to the edit, I finally had an excuse to use my Coin size gauge!

Well, since I'm on it, I also got a medal/token in that same junk lot. I assumed it was just brass junk. It is close to 28 mm, 5.0 g, and has an angel on both sides (exact same design on both sides). It is interesting because I saw an article somewhere (I think it was the Time special issue for the new American president) which showed all of the "good luck" pieces in Obama's pocket during the campaign trail that he was given, and this exact token/medal was shown. Honestly, I assumed it was some junk that was part of a magazine subscription renewal program.
