I cannot ID this one. I think it may be from around 1817 because of the number of stars. It is
slightly smaller than a present day quarter. The front says "FREEDOM" and has a winged-spread eagle seated on a shield (13 stars, 13 stripes). It has grain under the shield that extends to the wingtips. the obverse has a smaller eagle with wings raised, with a small shield below and clutching a branch. There are 20 stars encircling the eagle, which led me to believe it is an 1817 coin/medal. Any ideas? Thanks!

I believe it's a generic "stock token", made for use in video/pinball machines, laundromats, car washes, turnstiles etc. - wherever a token might be useful. They'd have been used all over the country, indeed all over the world. Companies would buy these stock tokens if they couldn't afford or couldn't be bothered to have specially designed tokens made for them. It would date no earlier than the 1960's, and more likely be from the 1980's, though similar tokens are no doubt still being made and used today.

This may also be a 'hard times' token from the mid-1800's. I do not have my reference books here at the moment. I will check when I get home tonight.
These were prevalent during that time period.
