It's time again! Another code to break! This time it's for an 1887 P Morgan. It's nice! (XF +) So, all you puzzlers come on out! I think this one is easier than previous ones, in a lot of ways. FYI: I devised this code in the 7th grade, so it's not too sophisticated. Once again, this quote is from an American politician. It is a 30 word quote with the speaker's name included. Once again, the rules: 1. You must have 50 posts to win. (If the one you guess correctly on is number 50, it counts!) 2. Guess as many times as you wish. 3. You may ask questions and I will answer them (perhaps cryptically of course, but truthfully). 4. I will post hints periodically. 5. I plan to run this until someone gets it! 6. The decoder shall explain the encoding in order to win the Morgan. (i.e., the code should be broken in order to win, versus a lucky guess.) 7. Unbridled jocularity and literary fool-hardiness are encouraged! Huge props to the previous winners of my previous code breaking: WpgLwr, Nod2003 & JBuck! WELL DONE! Enjoy my brothers & sisters! Yes! I recognize that! One of my students wrote that! With his toes, I believe.
Okay, I do have a question, not being a devotee to cryptography. Are spaces indicated by a mark?

pls wrote: Quote: Okay, I do have a question, not being a devotee to cryptography. Are spaces indicated by a mark? Good question! There are no spaces (at this time) between any of the words, phrases, or sentences. Any apparent spaces are by accident (or the need to include this quote inside 8 x 11 page parameters.) Clarification: In the 4th line, the 14th character is supposed to be a half vertical line and the 15th is supposed to be a half line slanted from upper left to middle right at a 45 degree slant. 2nd Clarification: In the 2nd line, the 20th and 23rd characters are supposed to be the same. (My fault, there is no way to type this code, and so it's handwritten with my rotten penmanship. Sorry...) So, to apologize, I'll start the hints: Hint # 1: France Edited to add clarifications

I do not know how I can write out what each letter is since I don't know how to write those symbols. The biggest clue was the name at the end. A double letter in an American political quote? Obviously Kennedy. Anthony is the only one I could think of besides Bobby that ended in Y, and Bobby did not fit. From there, I was able To guess the letter e, and it all fell into place after that.

WOW! WE HAVE A WINNER!Nod 2003 wrote: Quote: THE CASE FOR FREEDOM, THE CASE FOR OUR CONSTITUTIONAL PRINCIPLES, THE CASE FOR OUR HERITAGE HAS TO BE MADE ANEW IN EACH GENERATION THE WORK OF FREEDOM IS NEVER DONE. ANTHONY KENNEDY I should just mail all my Morgans to Nod2003! PM me again with your address, please! (I should have held on to it, shouldn't I?) NICE WORK! (I KNEW adding the name of the Quoter would help! Maybe too much when smarties like Nod are around!) Just for the rest of the crowd, the base of the encoding is the 6 dot Braille alphabet usually used by our blind friends. (we just connect the dots, so to speak...) The only problem is if there is a dot in the middle of a long line (like in the letter L. Then you add a cross line to indicate that there is a dot there in the middle. Simple. No?) No cross referencing, no grid, no blind alleys. (This time...) Braille Alphabet: And Nod was complaining on the last code about false leads and misdirection. NOW we know why I have to do that! Answer to the hints: France: Obviously Braille was from France. "How did he get from there to here" = "Connect the dots for me" (reference to the connected Braille dots). (Nod, the Morgan is packed and shipping today!) (I already have another code in mind. Maybe Nod will not like this one so much....)

I thought I would sit on the sideline, but it went by pretty fast! Good job, Nod!
