What fun I had this evening.

I was able to give a presentation on Coins and banknotes to 23 youth and their 7 youth leaders.

We talked about American Coins and banknotes showing examples form a type set which Susan helped me put together. we discussed banknotes from fractional notes to gold/silver notes and certificates, the various types and denominations of banknotes and looked at many examples of each.

we talked about the history of coins and looked at the various typed of coins minted in the USA. Large cents 1/2 cents III & V cent coins etc. and we even looked at an exposed bust quarter.

We talked about reference books and looked at Krause and the Reedbook.

And to make the evening more fun, We looked at the DARKSIDE - mainly Australian of course. They loved the proof Australian $1 silver Kookaburra with the Colour USA Flag Privy.

Each attendee was given a Liberty head V cent coin and a shekel from Israel.

To keep the darkside alive I distributed the new Breast Cancer awareness Canadian 25 cent coins to the leaders.

Two of the boys are now starting on their boy scout coin collecting merit badge and three of the girls are asking their mothers for coin reference books for their next birthday.

We finished off by distributing the educational materials from the Bureau of Printing and engraving and examining the New American banknotes to learn how to tell a real note form a counterfeit. Copies of the posters, books and CDs provided by the Bureau wee also handed out.

I don't know Who had more fun me or them

Sounds like a great evening. I had a similar experience when my son took his coin collection to his cub scout meeting. One of the greatest joys I get from coin collecting is sharing the experience with my son, they my dad shared his coins with me. (and still does)

bravo rggodie we all need to do that in our communities, the wealth of knowledge that can be learned from coins is huge and if we can get kids started early they can get a step up in live
