Hello All,

Here is an 1807 Quarter I recently picked up for a GREAT price. There are a couple of problems with it besides 200 years of wear. The first is on the reverse where the (25) was scratched off and the other is on the obverse near star 6 and the L, (they do match as far as where a clasp might have been located for a necklace.) It appears to have been a piece of jewlery ar one point, but upon closer inspection it could have been a damaged planchet along with a die crack which runs thru B and into the edge of E. On the back there is another crack which runs from the rim thru O and into the cloud.

I was hoping someone with Bust Qtr experience could chime in with some thoughts or anyone else for that matter

Take Care
Ben

What is going on with the shield on the reverse? I see funky squiggle lines

click on the image and it enlarges it. theres nothing going on with the lines its just the image being shrunk and not showing correctly but if you click it and look at the fullsize image its normal

LOL, that helped I thought my eyes were going wonky from staring at too many coins. The enlarged pic is much better. It is a nice coin for 200 years old and pretty rare to boot. Last one I saw was lucky if it was an AG3.

My initial feeling is that this coin was in jewelry. It is still in pretty nice shape with some nice detail remaining. I would say it's still worth about $75 or so.

Thanks for looking everyone. Yes Susan your on the mark about the jewlery thing. I also found out it's a (B-2) die variety with an R-3 rating.

it's the only Bust Qtr I've got and purchased it as a Half Dollar so I'm pretty tickled ;-)

Regards
Ben
