on a 1962 nickel? I don't think it is quite a full set but it looks like 5 complete to me, and usually I don't see any on early 60's nickels

imho..unless the mark just right of the 2nd pillar from the left is not on the coin...this is not a full step example. However I'm fairly impressed on how nice the steps are in relation to the wear on the Monticello front...Nice coin! A find or purchase?

I tend to agree with neversuited1 ..... and there is also a mark to the left of the left column .....

Not trying to be nit-picky here .... just the reality is that the '5 full steps police' insist on ..... uhhhhhm .... well ... 5 full steps.

This is a nice coin BTW.

Best

Thanks guys. I don't mind the nit-pickin', I am just starting to look at nickels and the full step concept is new to me, that is why I asked you folks. Any good sites for learning about steps? This is a roll-search coin by the way. I didn't think it was full steps but full steps vs. complete steps had me confused. A full complement of steps, with dings to the steps could also be called"full steps" so I am trying to understand the"rules" for calling things full steps. That said, I was very surprised to see this good a set of steps on a 1962.

Why doesn't anyone look at these on Memorial cents? I will forever be scratching my head.

I agree with you Badthad. There are so many Lincolns where the steps are a blur or messed up. Maybe you need to start the trend ,at least on this forum. It seems like dealer types don't even bother with Lincolns if they aren't wheatbacks, evidence the lack of grading criteria for LMC's. If they don't care, we do, so let's start our own grading criteria including steps, and see if it catches on! Maybe it could be proposed in one of the coin magazines.

The site below was given to us by Wheezydog in a different thread:

I believe this site will be very helpful.
