Do you think these new nickels will have an impact on the demand of the 2005 mint set>? Will we see another 2004 with low mintage?

No. I think the mint is gearing up to handle an increase in the demand for the 2005 sets. I feel you will find them to be quite common.

Let's hope so. It's a shame that such a great nickel (bison) may not even be seen in change as so many are being hoarded. I rarely see the peace medal or the keel boat varieties in change. The bison nickel seems to be a hit with collectors. I wish the bison image would stay on the coin. I wonder how the Kansas quarter will do?

Also, why was the 2004 mint set production so low? No demand?

The Mint tries to "guess" the demand each year and has yet to get it right. Since the State Quarter program started it all seems to be hit or miss. 1999 = Hot, 2000 = Dud, 2001 = Hot, 2002 = Luke Warm, 2003 = Luke Warm, 2004 = Hot. My guess is that 2005 will be too high and cause many to over buy this issue.
