With $500 - $550 would you buy (5) 1/10 ounce $5 gold eagles or (1) 1/2 ounce $25 gold eagle?

This would be for investment purposes and coins would be ungraded.

With $550, you can get 1/2oz plus a bit on the side. That's the problem. For small ones, there's an outrageous premium, but when SHTF, you can't really use large size for transactions.

Having said that, I would get the one that gives you the most for you money.

Since you said it was for investment purposes, it shouldn't matter which you go with if the price is exactly the same from whomever you are buying from.

When it comes time to sell, are smaller denominations easier to move? Meaning, would it not be easier to move 5 $100 coins than 1 $500 coin?

I would think it's easier to move small denoms.

Bullion coins will be the same to move in either denomination. When selling to a dealer or someone who deals in just bullion, they won't care what the denomination is they will only care about the weight of the coins.

I would most definitely go with the smaller denominations. I do not spend a lot of money on coins at one time so smaller denominations are perfect for me. I think most everyday collectors are like this also. So I would definitely go with the smaller denomination since they will be purchased more frequently than larger coins.
