I have tried using the cardboard flips you fold over and staple but there isn't much room to staple and the flip doesn't close tightly. Any suggestions? Are there albums to hold air tites?

You are right, those full size dollar 2x2's are not very durable. Every time I bought an Eisenhower dollar in one, I was nervous until I could get them home!

By the way, I keep my Eisenhower dollars in a Dansco album!

You could try the 2.5x2.5 "crown size" cardboard flips, that would be cheaper than an airtite album and would obviously be larger than a 2x2 flip.

I have never seen a Dansco album in person. Do the coins rattle in the pages?

No, the dollars are very snug in them. It is the only album I have where the plastic slides are danger close to the coins.

Not if you use Gorilla glue on them. Then they will not move ever. Just kidding of course.
As for those flips. If you place the dollar in them, fold them over tightly, tape the ends instead of staples, they will not only close completely, but no staples to flatten or get stuck on other flips.
I use tape on all such sized coins in 2x2's. Has worked for many, many, years.

I've heard that Liquid Nails works very well also.

There are also self sealing 2x2's.

2.5 x 2.5's would also let you examine the edges of the Ikes.

My Ikes are in a Dansco. No worries, just make sure they are fully in before you slide your plastic.
Rest in Peace
