Bronze coin with hole in centre and my guess is Chinese. Have scans.
Where to from here

*** I have moved your thread to this Forum. I would suggest posting of scans of your coin would make it easier for members to assist you.***

Many chinese coins do have a hole in the middle, so any images would help you get the coin identified.

That's a German New Guinea 5 mark, 1894. They're quite highly sought after, particularly in Australia and Germany. The black gunk on that one makes it hard to grade - is it corrosion or just surface tarnish? It's at least an AU$500 coin, maybe well up over $1000.

This is indeed a coin that many collectors downunder would like to add to their collection.

TKC, may I ask what you are basing it on to say this coin is Almost too likely to be counterfeit but depends where you got it from and how much?

I would be happy to learn and be enlighten by a Guru .

Good question Lim ...
Indeed I know where coin was found(found - not bought!). Along with many others trapped under floor-boards for untold decades. Look here ....(After registering, scroll down to volunteer "The List"
http://www.aussiecoins.net/forum/to...OPIC_ID=2539

Incidentally, notified owner coin is likely valuable and offered to buy. But when said coin worth maybe $500. and offered just 1/2 that, he declined. Now suddenly has himself become coin collector(?)
I'm guessing his next move ... will do rounds of coin dealers looking for mega-bucks. But also know they'll offer even less than me; their catch-cry; "Can't spend money on something that won't sell --- don't know any-one who'd be remotely interested. And if I did, they wouldn't pay me more than I'm offering you ... and I gotta eat, don't I?"

Cheers,

Goodasgold....I have to admit I do not know enough about this coin to shed any additional light other than it can be a pricey coin in the premium grades.

I had a quick check of ebay's auction history and found one that was passed in without any bids at $500.00.

Have a look and make a comparison

Thanks, Lim ...
Reckon ebay coin bit better grade, albeit only 1/2 Mark and not 5 Mark like mine(his).

Here we go, here we go, here we go!

Would you jolly-well believe ... Just picked up KJC Money Auction lift-out, spilled from current CAB magazine, and nearly fainted; right there on page 10 - lot 179. "German New Guinea, Silver Mark, 1894A. UNC AU$3,500." (!)

But must empathize; this particular coin is UNC - Big difference!
