2009 $1 Citizen 'C' Mintmarks - Coin Community Forum

Zaggy Valued Member Australia 432 Posts	Posted 07/16/2009 1:08 pm Just a question; has any one noticed the two 'variants' of the 2009 $1 Citizen 'C' mintmark coins? I ask as I have bought a half dozen or so of these and yesterday noticed (when sending a set to a friend of mine in Germany) that I had a mix of coins that had a somewhat 'frosted' finished and a regular 'BU' finish (like the other 3 Privymarks in the set). Before ppl start wondering if I am described a 'Proof', I will point out that the frosting appears over the entire design (like the die had been blasted, but none of the design features were polished like a Proof). Anyone else noticed this and is there any word from RAM on it? Report this Post to the Staff

I'm now curious as to which variant is more prevailent - in my experience, I have noticed more of the 'frosted' variety; but my sample space is pretty small (only about 28 coins). endlesswishlist New Member Australia 23 Posts	Posted 07/25/2009 01:28 am I only have the C mintmark to compare to the privymarks, but I can say my C mintmark coin is not as shiny nor brilliant as the privymark ones. If I get a chance, I might pick up some more mintmarked ones from assorted dealers, to compare. Are you thinking the dies for the silver proof may have been used or something? If the proof dies were used, you'd expect the frosting to be a bit more 'frosted' and you'd expect there to be highly polished area's... But there isn't; the faces are just slightly frosted...
