I just received the images back on this one too:

Does anyone have an idea on the approximate retail value?

Here's the problem: NGC tends to attribute any old Extra-Hair 1923 as a VAM-1B. Below is a pic of a "real" VAM-1B, an NGC MS64 which went for $576 at Heritage a couple years ago:

The price was somewhat over market, in my opinion.

If I'm reading your coin right - tough to tell from the pics - it's actually a VAM-1V:

That would make yours a $250-ish coin. Can you possibly provide details or a closeup of the actual breaks?

Thanks SuperDave....I can't yet since I don't have it back from NGC yet. They just updated the status to "finalized/imaged/shipped" so the only images I have are the ones provided by NGC in the original post. I can try to do that when I get them in hand though.

Ok after reading SuperDave's comments and looking on Vamworld, I think he is right. Mine looks more like a 1V. The only thing I am not sure of is the second small die break towards the back of the hair. I won't know about that until I get the coin back in my hand as the images provided by NGC don't allow enough zoom to discriminate this one way or the other. What's disappointing to me is that I paid an extra fee to have it attributed properly, and it looks like they might have missed this one.

Call them, if they haven't shipped yet.
