I hear all this talk about Wide AM's? What are they, are they easy to find, and most importantly are they valuable? What dates have "wide AM's"? How can you spot a " Wide AM"?

well I think I can help you
1st a Wide AM or WAM is if you look at a 96-2000 cent reverses and the letter A is going to be real close or even touching the letter M in AMERICA
if you look at a 91 you will see that there is a space between the a and m thats what the WAM will look like there is a roumor that there are 96 WAMs but its FACT there are 98 WAMs ,99 WAMs (good luck if you find this one ) and 2000 WAMs
as for value that all depends on the grade and the year
BTW these are all P mints
best of luck

and you can never tell when one will show up
coin roll ,pocket change, wife's coin purse or the boy's ashtry in his truck

Personally I think Wide AM's are a dull variety. It doesn't really excite me at all.

I'll buy from you every " DULL" 1996, 1998, especially any 1999, and any 2000 WAM'S you find and I'll even pay you 5 times their face value as a finders fee LOL!

*Seriously, I have to agree, as far as looks, they are just ordinary coins whether the AM is split or not, but not value wise, especially the 1999P WAM!

I've found only one 1999 WAM so far and sold it on e-Bay a while ago and got over $115.00. Nice return for .01 cent investment

I found a 1999 WAM (are they also called " Close AM"? or is this different?)in a clad proof set. Another way to tell if you have a 1999 WAM(I don;t know about the other years) is the FG by the base of the Lincoln memorial is further away in the WAM variety.
Rest in Peace

In a proof, you're looking for a Close AM. There are many posts about this subject. Wide AM has the A & M in America spread apart. Close AM has the A & M touching or nearly so. The FGs are opposite. On wide AMs they're close to the base, on close AMs they're further from the base. Once you see a picture of the two, you'll understand. (I hope)

Thanks for the help guys! Went through all the change I could find yesterday and today and found a 2000 Wide AM!! I was so excited they may not be worth much but it was neat to actually find one after looking through so many coins. How lame is it that finding it gave me somewhat of a "Rush"! hahaha
