Just out of curiosity, why are certain 80's redbooking at 6.00-12.00
I am sorting through quarters now, and there does seem to be less of those dates, but still I have quite a few of them.

Why bother to reply if you don't intend on answering the questions.
Like neither of you have ever made a typing error before

Mrwisker, you are taking this wrong. I have certainly made my share of typing errors before. But I can't figure out what you tried to type. What is your question and we will do our best to answer it for you.

There were none (or very few, I believe) mint sets minted for that year, so less MS coins were saved. Thus, MS coins that were not circulated (usually from mint sets... very few would keep MS quarters from circulation) are extremely rare and carry the higher price.

And you don't have to get all uppity about it. I was wondering too what you were trying to say the first time.

I had no clue as to what you were asking and had we not replied you wouldn't have realized the typo. Just take it in stride, laugh and fix the mistake next time.

Many there is a time that a thread goes completely south because of a typo.
I just get fried real quick when that happens (ok maybe not on this forum)
My apologies for jumping rather quickly.

the 1983p and 1983d show in the RedBook at 21.00 and 10.00 respectively
the 1986d is at 12.00
Why? I just got done sorting out quarters, and I seem to have quite a few of them.
What makes these years so "special"

Really? Mine is showing $40 and $20, and that's from a 2005 RedBook!

In the front of the book there is a table for UNC and proof sets. There were no UNC sets issued in 1983 (only special mint sets that you had to go to the mint to get), which explains the price. Remember! Our circulating finds from the 80s are usually at best XF, so if you have a true MS specimen, hats off to you.

As for the disparity between P and D mint prices, I'm at odds, too.

Also for the 1986D, there was a drop of 50k500k of the sold sets, so I guess that's why high quality pieces are so expensive.

That makes a bit of sense.
You are correct about the condition though.
I'll probably pull out the best and dump the rest back into circulation.
