A pic would be best , the Chicago expo was 1892-93 and is well remembered by the comm half dollar showing columbus on the obverse and his ship and globe on the reverse, two dates 1892 and 1893.
Yours would seem to be a souvineer from the expo ? Which in my experience fetch pretty good coin.

Ooops..sorry , I been out in the sun too long again , yours has 1862..dunno how I seen it as a 9.
Oddly enough the London expo was 1862 ..worth looking into. Also worth looking at the coin/medal closer , the pilgrims didnt discover America.Might it not be columbus ?

Now there's a stumper ... a coin/token dated 1862 with reference to an event 30 years in the future (Chicago Expo of 1892-3).

What you describe isn't the half dollar by the sounds of it , which might be a good thing.
Certainly the 1892 half dollar is the rarer of the two dates (1893) but not so much that its particularly valuable.Reasonable value depending on condition.

However yours doesn't sound like one , souvineers of these expos can go for good money so do have value.Im not refering to the issued half dollars , lots of other medals were struck , some to commemorate Washington were sold at the NY expo.
Id imagine if you browse ebay youll find your medal/token.
