To celebrate reaching 175 post, I have decided to have a contest.

I will post a picture of a coin and all you have to do is tell me,
(1) What country it is from.
(2) What value the coin is.
(3) What year the coin is.
(4) The name of the person on the Obverse

You will need a good atlas and your Krause cataog or simalar book.

The first person to correctly post the answers in this thread will be the winner.
You will win a 1961 Australian Penny and 1961 Australian Half Penny.

Good luck.

Here is the coin. Obverse

and Reverse
Triggersmob's-1st-Contest.--We-Have-A-Winner

Clue 1: This country is located 5900km (3688 miles) from me.
Clue 2: This country is located 17260km (10788 miles) from Gary Burke.(I picked Gary because he's not home to enter the contest).
Clue 3: This coin...No I think that's enough clues.

Have Fun and I hope you find this a bit different.

Regards

Steve

It's from Mauritius
a 1/2 Rupee
I'll guess 1999,(or a 1990 as a second guest.)
and that's the Dr the right Honourable Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Kt

LOL

I just put a 1951 in a 2x2 yesterday. What a coincidence.

Toast.

Prize coins are 1961, not 1951.

I must get some of those 2x2's myself, what do they cost?

Hi Steve,

Self adhesive 2x2's are about 30c eachcheaper if you buy in bulk.

Staple ones are much cheaper (a third)

Take Care,
lars

Tigerrsmob, LOL, I was refering to a 1951 Mauritius 1/2 Rupee that I have. Has a different obverse but I remembered the deer as a very nice looking design.

2x2's are expensive in Australia. About three years ago I search the internet and found them cheap as anything fron the United States. Of course they are in US currency size, but the price was very much cheaper even with postage. I bought a total of 5,000, across the 6 sizes.
USA dollar, for Australian 50c pieces and Pennies
half dollar, for Australian 20c pieces and Half Penny
Quarter, good for our 10c piece
Nickel, good for our 2c pieces
Penny and Dime, not much difference in size between these two. good for our 1c coins.
If you collect world coins, which I assume you do with the 1/2 Rupee, you'll find a supply of all six sizes is helpful.
I found that some coins look better in a bigger size holder than one with a very tight fit. That's just a matter of taste.

Yes, you can pay 30 cents each for a self sticky, or 10c each and have to staple in Australia. (I prefer the staple ones). But I bought in bulk and it cost me around 3c each including postage from the USA. So it pays to shop around.

Toast, that is a fantastic saving. I always cringe at paying 30c ea for them especially when I try and replace my 2x2 every so often.

Thanks for the advise on the 2x2's.

Seems like importing them might be the way to go.

Well done Toast,

I thought this coin might be a little difficult. So much for that idea. Here is the coin.

Great contest. I looked for about 15 min but couldn't find it. If you need help finding some 2x2's let me know and I will see what I have or if you are looking for a lot then I could go price them at the coin shop. if you need help let me know how many you are lookig for and what size coins you are wanting to put in them.

Hi Danny,

Thanks for the offer. I would probably only use the 2x2 for my better coins, so I wouldn't need too many. I was thinking about 500, this would give me some spares. If you could find out a current price that would be great, but don't go out of your way. As toast said I would probably need all sizes.

Thanks again Danny.

Steve
