What is the weight if you can weigh it? Te diameter and metal composition, Copper, brass, silver, gold or iron? For it to be a 2.5 dllar it should be at least silver, I think? I am getting two diffrent coins with these shots you have posted. It may be an individual bank issue? More information will help greatly. Also welcome to the forum.

It would be better if you posted this in a seperate post under the unknown coin area. More attention.

I used my mighty moderator powers to split the topic for you.

As for what it is, it appears to be an imitation of an American gold 2½ dollar coin. But clearly, this isn't made of gold. It's probably brass, and would have looked much more yellow-golden when it was new.

With the two holes drilled into it like that, I suspect it either was turned into some kind of jewellery item or it may indeed have been made as a piece of jewellery that simply looked like a coin.

Correct me if I am wrong but Gold coins would not corrode like that would they? Even having 10% copper in the mix it would never oxidize or corrode to that extent. I am thinking this is one of the links of a bracelet or necklace that had loops to hold the length of others like it together.
The obverse and reverse don't even look like they pair up in any way for a real coin.

I'm not positive, but my opinion is that it is a gaming counter. I have not yet located a reference for quarter eagles, so a guess is all I have at the moment.
