When I first joined this forum, I had mentioned that I had purchased a collection of transit tokens, as well as elongated cents, casino chips and tokens and a multitude of other things. I was asked for pictures...well...here is only a small portion. http://www.ihadthat.com/tokens/It was easier to set up an index, as this listing barely scratches the surface of the collection. These tokens will eventually be put up on ebay (seems I am running out of room) But until then, take your time and enjoy them. Edited by mrwisker 08/08/2009 11:07 am

That's only where I started... I got 40+ double wide red 2x2 storage boxes full that I am still cataloging and documenting.

Good luck selling those. Seems like they will sell cheap unless 2 or more local buyers spot one and start a bidding war. Unless a token is local, I can't deal with it. Local tokens appreciated though!

Depending on what you call local, I most likely have it. I probably have 2 or 3 thousand tokens (or more), and not just east coast. Selling them cheap is most likely the way I will sell what I don't need. (price paid per piece allows me that luxury) Most likely on ebay or by the piece in a private deal (depending on the offer) will be the way I sell them. I'm having fun identifying them and cataloging them for now.

For the Transportation Tokens, start with vecturist.com Also, there is a standard catalog for Transportation Tokens:
The Atwood-Coffee Catalogue of United States and Canadian Transportation Tokens (The newest edition is Edition 6. Don't buy an older one. Values have changed dramatically in recent years.)
While most transportation tokens are quite common and can be acquired for less than $5 , there are heavy-hitters out there worth thousands of dollars. Have fun.

Thanks For the past few years, I have been getting tokens here and there. I knew about the Atwood-Coffee book, but at the time, it was cost prohibitive. Since it had been quite a few years when they did show up on ebay, they went for some big bucks ( Amazon had them from 100.00 and up Used) When The new one came out and I purchased the large collection, My first investment was the Atwwod-Coffee book. Then to my surprise and delight, I found out about and purchased Volumes 2 and 3. Volume 2 gives history and volume 3 gives die variations. Great resources. The only thing I would do different with Volume 1 is to have the Identification table in the back separate. That would make it much easier to use.

I went through about half of the pics but the best ones I saw were the Hawaiian tokens- those are quite desirable, the hula girls make them very popular collectibles

It seems that many of the photos are of medalets, not tokens. Transit tokens were used as fares aboard transit vehicles, imho, like Daniel's Philadelphia token pics.
