The mule coins are mistakes not made on purpose by using the wrong obverse or reverse for the year the coin was minted like the Olympic wheel chair curling coin it has the Olympic logo it should of had the paralympics logo on it.

I vaguely remember reading about an 1871H mule, was that the coin that had a newfie die paired with a Canada die?

And the 1985 50 cent with New Zealand obverse I have never seen one but they are in the CCN trends @ $4,000.00 in circulated and $5,000.00 MS-60 condition that would be a good find.

I have the Olympic/Paralympic Wheelchair curling mule set and the 2008 Alpine Skiing coloured leaf mule.
I also have the UK (2008) no date 20 pence mule and the Australian 2005/2006 proof $1 mule in 2006 proof set and 2005/2006 proof 20 cents mule in 2006 proof set and just recently purchased the Australian 2000 10c obv/$1 rev $1 mule.

I have seen images of that 1985 NZ 50c/Canadian $1 mule. It was incrediable and owned by a dealer in Canada or US.

Papeldog, I had one.. got it from a European dealer together with a 48 dollar and 1966 small bead dollar.. just a lucky strike.... however, I sold it to a private, very private collector in BC. ICCS graded it as a MS 60. However, when you have a coins that rare, grade is usually secondary as long as it is acceptable. And... price was a lot more than CCN suggests... here are the pix...

Mule coins have always made me wonder the following question: "How does an organization (R.C.M.) that specializes in minting Canadian coinage (and does nothing else) make such a horrific Error?" You would think they would have incorporated sooo many checks and balances as to have prevented this sort on mistake! But then again, anything that is run by the federal Government should not surprise us. Glenn
