It's only AG and some lunatic drilled a hole part way through the obverse, but it is a 1916 S. Ever notice how they only drill collectible coins?

LOL - and they only schedule events outdoors that YOU want to go to when it's raining, right?

A 16-s is a 16-s; it's one of those coins, like a 1885 Nickel, that is desirable in just about any condition.

Maybe it belonged to Sarah Palin - if you look through the hole, can you see Russia?

Nice score, hole or no hole

Thanks, but I didn't score it. It's been sitting around our shop for a few years without photographs. When I saw it was a key date, I photographed it. Coins like this usually sell after I photograph them.

So the question is what would you do or say to the person that did that drill mark if given the opportunity?

I assume it was done a really long time ago and the person had no ill will. At least they contributed to making it affordable to a collector somewhere, seeing as how a 1916 S costs a good deal more in higher grades. Even a VG would cost twice as much.

Excellent find even with the drill hole. I assume they were trying to make a necklace? They must not have known much about classic coins. What a shame...

Nah, Sacco did that in the early 1920's, he hated Liberty like our current President
