 I would like to know if its real and at about how much would this coin sell for?

If it's real silver, it would be worth melt. It definitely wasn't minted in 1900, and is more similar to the modern silver eagle design than anything that circulated. At first glance, I was thinking it was a silver eagle with an altered date; but the coin really rough for a silver eagle...so it may be a fake. I'm not even sure it is silver. Have you weighed it?
Regardless, it is going to be worth whatever the metal value of the material it was made of.

I will weight it as soon as I am able to. you know it seems I have no luck, so far I've got three one-dollar coins that have been anything but real. [/frustrated]

It looks cast, since the middle of the coin lacks detail. So where did you get this?

Looks like a bad Chinese copy of an ASE the date is probably 1999 and just covered by the wide rim. |

It is obviously not a genuine American Silver Eagle with an illegitimate date of 1900. Even if it was a silver bullion round from a private mint, it would be an illegal piece using a denomination and other devices. At one ounce, it should weight 31.1 grams but I bet it is six or seven grams light. Almost certainly an Asian counterfeit made of cheap white metal.

Hopefully this is a relatively cheap lesson learned. Do a bit of research and know you are getting an authentic coin before plunking down the cash. If your inexperienced, it is beneficial to primarily look at coins graded by top tpgs, ANACS, PCGS and NGC. Be wary of ebay. Also, purchasing a RedBook is great for understanding the various US coin types, and associated ballpark values. You will also learn a lot from people on this forum, so please continue to post away! It is a modern american Eagle. Date sure is not correct as we
all know that this 1 oz silver eagle was not produced until
1986.
