I recently bought a collection of Swedish coins. I am very happy with the results, the only problem is the duplicates. For instance, I have about 20 five Ore coins dating from 1895-1970 that are all duplicates. I also have rolls of 1 and 5 franc coins from Belgium from a previous collection that I bought. They're starting to take over my desk. Am I the only one that has this problem?

I use PVC free zip-lock bags to put mine in. I just picked up another 2-drawer lateral filing cabinet to keep them today. Never let them get the upper hand on you man. It is your desk don't let them have it!
Rest in Peace

I had about 10 pounds of German coins at one time - bought them on impulse at a local auction. I showed 'em - they went into the bulk foreign box at my local coin dealer @ $5.00 per pound (after I'd carefully searched the box, of course)!

Prior to leaving England I had about 150 kilos of duplicate coins, various countries, denominations, dates. The idea was to start selling them on the internet in lots (starter packs or date ranges of particular types etc). Well that was the plan! On leaving England I had to get rid quick and it just so happened that a well known travel company was collecting any odd foreign coins people might have had left over from their holidays for charity. Turning up at the local office and handing over thousands in one lot and they wanted to get a picture in my loacal paper. I declined and said I wished to remain anonymous. Well they got the picture with one of the girls in the office with the coins and some free publicity for the company and the charity.

We are in the middle of buying a huge collection, every 50 or so type/dates comes along a triple digit quantity, the largest being 634 (oh, and we are only through the C's alphabettically. Thankfully we have a dealer friend who is taking the large quantities off of our hands (he has been able to unload those in China and Russia for a nice profit, surprisingly).

It's nice to know I'm not the only one. Thankfully I'm not anywhere near 300 pound right now.

Hey Griffin - do you suppose those Russian and Chinese buyers are turning them into scrap?

Surprisingly, most of them no. There are plenty of collectors in those countries, but they were unable to get coins in during the strong communist governments of the 60s and 70's. So with these large amounts coming in, the dealers are scooping them up. Pretty interesting that our countries can be so different, but in general people like the same stuff.
