A Chinese seller just posted this nice 8R with an interesting " clash" in the field.

The problem is that the same seller sold a coin a month ago with the same dents - but which has a different dirt encrustation pattern on the obverse. The most recent post shows MORE dirt than the April post so he apparently stores his coins in mud.

Or he posted two transfer die fakes too closely together.

Unfortunately, madhandles, I believe it's perfectly legal for them to make counterfeit coins - in China. It is, however, illegal to import fake coins into the US that aren't clearly marked as such, and it's against ebay policy to offer fakes for sale without describing them as fake.

Love his return policy - 5 days. What are the chances of shipping a coin from China, to the US (Or UK, Australia or anywhere else), get a second opinion on authenticity, be told it's fake, then send it back to China for him to receive it, all within 5 days?

Swamper: I don't know about the Chinese markets, but in Vietnam, many small-time sellers of coins (both fakes and real ones) do so in the open air - even through the monsoons. Natural weathering! It's why all the Vietnamese cash coins you see for sale always seem to have a nice thick green colouration...

Correct me if I am wrong, ebay has the VeRO program that has put paid to quite a lot of rampant and bogus listings of brand name products like Versage in clothing and Rolex in watches etc.

As I understand it the "owner" (in this case the Mints) has to be a member of this program. The "member" can then request the removal of all this bogus coins that are listed for sale.

I am not a ebay seller, perhaps a member seller who is well versed in all the legal intricacies of ebay can comment in this matter.
