I need help dating his reverse. The coin has two identical reverse.

Hello Ladylou, and welcome!


Unfortunately, your coin is not really a coin at all but is some kind of medal or decoration. It resembles the reverse design of a Morgan dollar coin minted in New Orleans (see the O mintmark above DO of DOLLAR?) but is clearly not the real thing. Here is a photo of a genuine New Orleans Morgan dollar reverse, for comparison. The differences are obvious.

Thanks - guess that would explain it. Somebody must have treasured this medal
it is very worn down and has been in my great grandfathers coin box forever. Maybe
it even won them a few "heads or tails" bets along the way.
