RFB- believe it or not I have been very selective. I am trying to get the highest grades possible without breaking the bank. With these gold coins I have gone with coins for common date money but that have a lower mintage than many other "common dates".
The 1836 has a high mintage for the series but it still hovers around 547,000. The 1901 Quarter Eagle has a fairly low mintage compared to the later coins. It has a mintage of 91,000. The Half Eagle is a date of rather low mintage for the "common dates" at 131,720 minted.
I feel that the Liberty Head gold series is undervalued and hopefully getting these lower mintage dates at common money will payoff somewhat in the future. It took me two weeks of scouring the internet and
ebay to find these coins in the condition I wanted and actually pull the trigger. For each coin there was not a similar coin offered for a lower price than what I paid, and I am pleased so far.
To answer your question I have not completed a page yet. I have been all over the place in the set just having fun. I have gotten a couple
Half Cents several nickels, a bust quarter and half, franklin, roosevelt, two classic commemoratives, a silver eagle, and 4 gold coins. The only section I have completed is the Quarter Eagles (unlike the dansco book I have decided to include the Classic Head Quarter and Half Eagle).
I am hoping to finish the gold page first as it is most heavy on the pocket. I am also about half way to saving enough for my first $20 Double eagle, I think I might buy the Liberty Head first!
