I wonder how many sets the mint gets in returns from its online store? Shame to waste them like that.

Absolutely ridiculous. If were to take a coin and run it thru a device and obtain the same results it would be called a fake. The mint can do this and people will pay a nice premium for them? What a joke. I guess it just goes to reinforce what I have always believed, that an item is worth whatever someone is willing to pay.

Customer returns sent back to the mint are not waffled. They are resold to someone else. Some people never open to inspect what the mint sends them.

The waffle coins are made when they find a production error or quality issues in some coins.

I started with a 2 set order for the silver proof sets. Sent the first 2 back received the replacement pair and kept one, sent the other in for replacement and received one with a cracked quarter case and the box was dog-eared. Sent it back for a refund. They just cycle around the returns till someone keeps them or until the milage adds up to their "not for issue any longer" point. Its disgusting! nlp

This really doesn't boost my confindence ordering from the mint. I would hope to be getting something new and untampered with rather than getting someone elses return. I would be willing to bet that some coins in the sets you get from the mint came from other sets that people sent back while keeping the choice coins...assembling sets with good coins then sending back the junk and the mint sends that out to some other poor sap.

All coins returned to the Mint for any reason are sent to China. Many here think our Mint still makes coins and currency. Our Mint is only a government front with no people working there except the ones that send and/or receive such items from China. Since so many of our products have been outsourced to other Countries, our government now does the same with our money to China. And why not, they have already been making so much of it anyway.
