I found this coin. Not a coin collector, so have no idea what it is fake or real. Any help would be appreciated. It weighs around 30g and is not magnetic.

I have a feeling that this may be a "tourist copy" or some other fake type of coin. China is the coin forgery capital of the world, so this is likely. But I must admit that I am not the major expert of coins of this country, so I say let a few throw some opinions at you.

Sorry, but I agree, it's not a genuine coin.

From the note in the Krause world coin catalogue:

Quote:
The 1867 tael... were minted at the Hong Kong mint as proposed trade coins to China. The Chinese expressed no interest in any form of struck coinage and the scheme was dropped...

Listed in Krause under the patterns, KM# Pn122. Only a very, very few exist outside of museums. The probability of "finding" a genuine one is effectively zero.
