Collecting coins and bills was an old childhood hobby I have recently resumed. I have been lucky enough to have acquired what I believe to be a rare bill, and probably valuable to a Chinese collector given their view of the number 8! Can anyone out there ball park its value? Thanks.

I have actually been looking for just such a bill. A friend has been searching for an all 8 serial bill for years.
I couldnt give anything acurate but if you do decide to sell it please let me know.
Congrats on the find.
Just noticed- Welcome to the boards. And welcome back to the hobby.

I too have a similar note, a series 1996 $50 with a serial # of 00888800. What would a value be for something like this.

That is really quite a collectible fancy serial number, probably quite desirable to an Asian collector with an affinity for numerology. I really have no idea as to a value but it would certainly have a significant premium. Lew Dufault is a currency dealer that specializes in fancy #s and errors, you may want to contact him as he might have a better idea for a market value(price guides do not exist for things like fancy #s).

For both of you guys, take it to Hong Kong (or maybe even Shenzhen now!). Go to one of those coin markets and you can ask buyers who frequent the banknote tables (or anyone in fact; who doesn't like an 888 note that's on a DOLLAR?)

All I have to say is sick. I have three bill that have six of the same number and have been looking for a bill like that for ages. The fact that it is a 1963 and the serial numbers don't look like thay are in line makes it even sweeter. Plus the B looks like another eight. Condition could be a little better but hey what can you expect from a bill that old. Did you find that in circulation?

I regularly see $1 solids listed on ebay in the $1500 - $3000 range, but I've never actually seen a completed auction on a solid.

Thanks for the comments! It would be nice if it was crisp and uncirculated, but it has been tucked away for about 40 years. Seems like a good one to keep just because they aren't everywhere.

Hello, Last year I bid on 3 Canadian solid 8 bills in VF condition at Baldwin auction in HongKong.. they went for an astronomical sum of over 10K I dropped out at around 3. I suggest if you want to sell it, ask at Heritage or at Baldwins.

10k... HKD? or USD?! Anyways, that's a lot. And I think hhb is right. If you need to sell it, take it to an auction house and make sure they put it available in HK or China for the nouveau riche. Same for coins92. If you need to sell any notes with a lot of 8s, always try to sell them off to an Asian (especially Chinese) market. Now... I wonder what price this will fetch...
