I just bought my first two Cap Bust Halfs and now I'm hooked. The black marks are spots not pits. Please grade.

This coin looks weakly struck or struck on a thin planchet. Actual wear down to about VF30.

Congrats on catching the fever. I think the obv would make 40 due to the weak strike. VF 32.5 on the rev. Overall VF 35 cleaned. Luv 'em.

Nice Capped Bust Half!

I would say also VF-30. The strike is nice on the reverse, particularly the motto, maybe a bit weak on the obverse. There is a little wear on the hair on obverse and the eagle head & wings on reverse.

(I haven't got my Capped Bust Die varieties book yet so I can't help with that.)

Still gorgeous for a coin 191 years old!

Keep the pictures coming, please!

Moe, check out this link. They have capped bust halves broken down by year and Overton number.. with lots and lots of pictures. http://coinzip.proboards.com/index....oard=lebust.

It makes it much easier to pinpoint what Overton number you are looking at. :D

(Mods.. if linking to other forums is discouraged, please feel free to correct my post. )

Checking my borrowed Overton book points me to O-112 for this coin (a common R-1 rarity rating). I agree it looks cleaned and the spots do detract somewhat from the eye appeal. It should grade anywhere from VF-20 to VF-30 IMO. Definitely a nice coin to have but it should be fairly easy to upgrade if you want a nicer example.
