Everyone has their favorite pet coin / coins and I'm sure we all had our own experiences of " What Was I Thinking " Or " Why Did I Buy That " Mine was a ten cent coin that was so ugly ( I could not read the date and the color I couldn't even begin to describe ) that it went in a bank roll and right back to the bank. Stories and pictures would be great....

I have a couple. In fact I just recently fished them out and was going to finally get rid of them. I even posted them but figured right now I have to many things going on so I will wait until things slow down and repost them for sale. First is a 1886 V nickel. You need to stand on one leg and squint with your head tilted JUST so, in order to see the date. Problem is it is such a hard key to find that I just continue holding onto it in case I ever thought I might build a V nickel set. If that one isn't sad enough for you..... Look at this 1916d Obverse Mint Mark Walker Half. Another key date but just nearly worn slick. You actually can make the date out when it is in your hand but it is just as sad. I was at an auction and during the preview time, I got caught up on some morgans and Indian pennies so I didnt get a chance to even see this before bidding. I heard the auctioneer read the label 1916d OBVERSE MINT MARK U.S. Walking Liberty half dollar." I thouht why not?....When there was no rush for bidding I thought "Cool, that was a good buy"...then when I won they presented the coin to my at my seat for payment...I laughed audibly at myself for digging the hole and jumping right in on such a coin. I should have known better. Lets see who can top these! Hahaha....... -RFB

What no one can top these?
Come on folks, dont be shy. Post your pets, the dregs that you have for reasons you can't even explain but you still hold onto.

Some time ago I was talking to someone about sets and how the keys on some sets can kill the fun for most folks to ever be able to complete a set. He mentions that there are keys priced for everyone. I laugh and tell him that such coins as 16d merc or 77 indian can be completely destroyed and people would still glue the bits back together and fill the hole. Sure they might be able to afford them but who would stick such a coin into their set? He whipped out this lovely beast!! behold the infamous 1916d WINGED LIBERTY "Mercury" DIME!! Are you ready!? I mean it,...hold onto something... Worth the wait! Never before have you seen such a coin!! Jealous?...Yeah I knew you would be... No everyone can boast such a collection but you know how it is. When I saw this coin I smiled wide. I know this one little scrap of a D on the reverse saved him from the melting pot. Actually the dimple in the center of the D is what saved him, there is almost nothing left of him at all. I bought this coin basically,...well frankly because I am an idiot. This is one of those coins that takes the entire team of acrobats to contort in such a way to view the date and mint mark. If you saw the coin in person you still wouldn't believe it. You would take a loop, or even a microscope and play and wiggle and move the coin for 10 minutes and THEN authenticate it. -RFB

Seems a token.........two penny piece for change, maybe an old arcade token or business token where money not changed hands?

I would say a Brit merchant token from Nottingham(?) Norwich late 18th or early 19th century. I couldn't find it in my Brit token book.

RFB, if the date/mm is somehow readable, undoubtedly you will end up selling it for more than you paid for it someday. Like the 1909-S VDB and 1937-D "3 leg", it's one of those coins that will always and forever have a potential buyer somewhere!

NCLT 2011 lotus/year of the rabbit. WHAT was I thinking, the last lunar series rabbit tanked, and this one looks worse. Although I've got a few SMLs from when I started collecting that were total rip-offs. At least I didn't lose much - they're still worth melt.

Rodime, I haven't received the rabbit yet but from the pictures on the web it looks alright. The tiger was stunning... so I was hoping for similar impact.

I rather like it, but NOT as a coin.
