I have a dilema. I recently sold a cd on ebay. Payment is past due and I have tried to contact the buyer several times and never had any responses whatsoever. I filed with ebay for non-payment. This buyer only has 4 feedback and the last one is a negative for NPB. Should I be concerned? I fear if I leave a negative feedback that the buyer could retaliate and leave one for me when I did nothing wrong and would tarnish my ebay reputation. But if I don't leave the feedback, I would be doing other eBayers a disservice.

I would say you are in your right to leave negative. He might do the same to you in order to reataliate, but if your future buyers are serious people and not total morons, will check your feedback and see it was a blackmail.I always check feedback, and most of the time I can come to a conclusion if the negative left by a buyer is legitimate,or he/she was just trying to blackmail the seller.
Just my opinion.

Hi nds

There are times when doing what is right can be a little scarey !!

This is one of them, leave the Neg, and if the buyer returns the favor post the follow up ,, and apply to ebay to have the neg removed.

it may or may not get taken away, but the follow up takes care of any negative results !!

any buyer who looks at your feedback will know that you neg non payers = good thing for you !!

and any potential sellers who get a bid from the buyer in question will know that they are not a dependable buyer = good thing for other sellers .

The good far out weighs the bad !!

We never leave feedabck for an NPB. Negative FB does nothing to a buyer, since they can just bid at the end anyway.

Now filing for your fees back is what hurts them, make sure you do that. Three NPB strikes and they're out.

People live busy lives, and paying for things on ebay may not be as important as the latest crisis in their lives. I think you have to give people time as it could be their computer broke down. Wait another week.

I wait a maximum of a month then it is negative feedback time and a NPB lodgement.
Rest in Peace

I don't think there's any doubt that ebay's feedback system as it is presently implemented is completely unsatisfactory for all the reasons stated above, mostly involving feedback extortion. Unfortunately, ebay simply is not responding to complaints and it does not appear that it will change its system at any time in the near future. It may be that ebay has gotten too big for its britches and has become arrogant and nonresponsive as a result (didn't we have a recent thread on this topic?).

Hi nds76

Well from the many responses you have received you got 2 from bobby and bigfella, they have stores are dealers etc on ebay and are in business there. Their answers were totally opposite of each other. bigfella says nuke 'em, bobby wants his fees back, no fb.

I have had it both ways, I sold an item & the buyer never responded or payed. I have won items and the seller never gave me a total, email or never responded to my communications after I won. In the first case I did what bobby does, I put in for the fees refund that I was charged in my account for the item selling but a no-pay bidder and I left no feedback for the non-paying loser, none was left for me. In the second incident, I blew it off and moved on, no fb was left by either one of us. I bidded on an item that was the same with a different seller and finished that deal.

To me it would depend on the amount of money involved. For a CD or silver eagle, or a morgan? I would not post a neg, for a $1000 or a $20 Saint coin? I would hammer the worm--or rather "nukem" as bigfella would do--

I always leave my feedback when a customer has paid....this is because that is all they are obligated to do. If they do not pay after a payment reminder they get nuked. I am beyond caring about negative feedback for those that do not pay me as all can see that my rating speaks for it self. If everyone took this attitude then the feedback system would be an honest one. I hate dealers with a passion that will only give feedback once,I as a buyer, leave it. They never get my business again. I am of the view that a seller should not be given the opportunity to give feedback after a short period from when the buyer has paid. If they do not give it once payment is received then there should be no opportunity to give it as once the buyer has paid that is all they are obligated to do.
Rest in Peace

I'm with bigfella on this issue. I feel as a seller that once a buyer has paid in good faith, then he has earned positive feedback and I post it immediately or at my first opportunity without waiting for the buyer's feedback. Only once has this ricocheted back at me and that was when I was selling for a third party, did not have the item in hand, and the third party sold it offline to a fourth party AFTER I had already sold it on ebay. Of course, my buyer was more than a little upset and justifiably so. Making a long story short, I put a LOT of pressure on the third party to either resecure the item back from his buyer or replace it with an identical item; after all, he had sold an item which he legally did not own. He secured another identical item, my buyer was pleased, and the matter ended happily for all. But, my lesson learned: no more third party sales without the item in my hot fat hands. I will continue to give positive feedback as soon as my buyers have paid; they have met their obligations. Nevertheless, my position on ebay's feedback system remains the same: it sucks.

I already left the feedback so the case is closed. That buyer has 2 negs in a row and a low feedback score of 66.7%.
