hi I have a coin I cannot find anything about, it has a double headed bird on one side with upswept wings, and a crown at the top, in its claws it holds a scepter on the left and an orb with a cross on the top on the right, I think the date is either 1318 or 1818, the front of the coin has leaves up both sides and a crown at the top, there is then a 2 and underneath this some writing, which I think is either, greek, russian or roman, underneath this is a K and a backwards N like the russians do, then a line and a small EM, though spending many hours searching, the closest I can come to the bird is one in the holy roman empire, can anyone help solve this for me please.

denester From the description it sounds like a Russian 2 Kopeck struck in cooper. Check Krause C#118 series. The date is 1818 and the type is fairly common. Krause lists 5 subvarieties - 118.1, 118.2 etc. Most are in the $2 to $10 range unless they are exceptionally well preserved.

Yes, it would look like this (the small "EM" is the mintmark, there's a different one in the photo)

thank you swamperbob and DL20K for your help, I am new to coin collecting and this one was found using a metal detetor in a part of a cliff that had broken away onto a beach at talland bay in cornwall in the uk. There have been a few wrecks in this area in the past and also quite a few were traders, thanks again.

denester Welcome to coin collecting. I hope you have fun at it. I began as a kid over 50 years ago and now that I am retired I spend most of my time with my hobby.
