I was looking through some US coins when I came upon this 1896 Canadian cent. What would this coin grade as? DO the multiple die cracks add value to the coin or take away from it? Is this coin worth anything? Thanks for you help.

Here are some pics of the coin and cracks.

It will get a premium for being the far 6 variety.

Yes, that's the exact coin. By 6 variety you mean die variety? What do you think this coin's worth? I doubt I'd sell it, but it's just nice to know. When I checked out sales on ebay it looked like the $2 - $5 range. Is that accurate for this coin? Thank you for the info, I'm glad I finally have a decent error coin. Does it look in good condition to you?

I would put the value of your coin closer to $50 retail. It looks to be VF30 tops. Nice find.

One more thing. How are the obverse and reverse supposed to match up when flipping the coin over? If I'm looking at the obverse right side up and flip the coin over on its horizontal axis (up and down) the reverse will be upside down ( US coins when you flip them on their horizontal axis will remain right side up). Is this another error or is that how they were produced. I asked mostly because I have a canadian nickel which when flipped on the horizontal axis will remain right side up like a us coin. I have a second 1896 cent that flips the same as the first. Thanks for your help.

This is how they were made. Not like US coins, when flipped.

VF-35?! No way! I would say XF45- AU 50.
Not that what I say goes, but just thought I'd share my grade opinion, ;)

The far 6 that Zonad mentions is the 6 in the date. When you look at a bunch of these you will see different spacings between the 9 and the 6. The coins with the farthest 6's are called the far six variety and a premium is paid for them. That's why your coin is worth so much more than the regular date spacings you see on ebay. It's a keeper for sure, and I agree with Zonad on the grading.
