I am interested in what you think would be a good
starter collection for a child.I want to start my
son in a couple. One with US coins, and another from
a different country.I was thinking maybe Canadian
coins?Although I also have others from Mexico,Nigeria,
one from Republic Of Trinidad And Tobago. What do you
think?thanks.sn31.

A good starter for any child in the USA would be the State Quarters. The variety should keep them interested, espicially with the two different mint marks.
Canada is coming out with a couple colored coins so this may be an attractive option.
A general World coin collection in which you try and collect one coin from every country can start as a child and last a lifetime.

I will agree with some of the other I think a great starter set for anyone is the State Quarter. Most are easy to find and you learn in the process. I bought on for my 7 year old nefew and he likes his, I bought him a Map not a folder though. Also I think lincond cents are a good one since they are cheep for kids to collect and all you have ot do is know you r numbers

There is a nice beginner set that the US mint sells

http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...ory_rn=10197

To highlight the coin manufacturing process, this set includes a one-cent planchet, a pair of circulating one-cent coins, a pair of satin-finish uncirculated dimes and a proof-condition half-dollar. This set illustrates many features and finishes found throughout our Nation's coinage. The booklet also briefly discusses the history, design and manufacturing processes that have contributed to more than two centuries of American coinage.

Price: $14.50
