sn31,

I'm Canadian and I couldn't find a decent site (yet),but here are some resources :

http://www.canadiancoin.com/index3.htm
Not only a forum, has some other info too ( limited but maybe usefull)

http://www.calgarycoin.com/modern/cdcent.htm
A dealer's site with some info about old Canadian coins

If you want to know something about modern issues, ask here, maybe i'll be able to answer.

Another option will be to buy a Charlton catalogue, they also have information about coins ( it's not expensive).

I will agree with Abyss concerning the purchase of a Charlton catalog. They are inexpensive and cover just about anything you need to know about Canadian coinage.

The Maple Leafs do not change design each year (like other bullion coins).Mine is a little bit of a special one because it has a privy mark( that is the little tulip on it).The normal ones have only the big Maple Leaf. There are people who collect them as a series,by years.I don't.I see them just as bullion coins. They are nice, but not that nice for me
I can buy them from here for you,but in my experience,if you look hard enough in the States, you might find them there for a good price.
They sell ussualy a little bit above silver spot price here.

The site Terry gave you ( colonialacres) is a good dealer here.I've been there a couple of times. In person I can't say that I've liked them very much ( but there were only kids working there part time),but as far as web prices go,i think they are ok.
Hopefully you'll find something closer to you.If not, drop me a line.

Mark,

The normal Maple Leaf issues are sold only a few dollars above silver spot. They have the maple leaf on a UNC background.

Most of the privy mark coins are frosted background with the leaf on mirror finish. These coins sell anywhere from $ 20 cdn and up ( depending on the demand for that specific privy mark).

The one I have as avatar is a privy mark made for Dutch mint ( as a celebration of the eliberation WW2) and it has a mintage of 2500 coins.I've paid $ 70 for it. The leaf is mirror finish and the background is frosted.I like the coin,I've specially liked the little tulip.

If you want to know the prices for normal Maple Leafs ( treated as bullion only, but people are also collecting them by year),you can go here : http://www.bordergold.com
For the privy mark ones,i don't have a site right now,but I think you can see some of them here : http://www.colonialacres.com

If you are interested to know more about the privy marks,e-mail me and i'll send you a few documents with the information I have so far on these.

One of which Mark ?
The normal ones, the privy ones ?

I can certainly help you to buy the normal Maple Leaf if you want.I have a shop where I go in the week-end usually.E-mail me if you want and tell me where in Canada are you.
Never mind..I've seen your profile .Don't you guys have any dealer there for these ? I'm surprised. In any case, last week-end that dealer wanted $ 21 cdn for one normal Maple Leaf. There are no taxes there,so that's your price, plus the shipping to you (at my actual cost, you'll see it on the envelope). If you're interested,e-mail me.
