clipped
A term for an irregularly cut planchet. A clip can be straight or curved, depending upon where it was cut from the strip of metal.

you were being too precise

There are many places where coin terminology is explained. One of the more common ones is on pages 400 and up in the famous Red Book by Whitman Publishing. For example there is states Clipped Planchet-An incomplete coin, missing 10 to 25% of the metal. This is followed by a paragraph of explanations.

Saw the subject line and expected a bunch of replies about the new quarter program announced by mint.

That's MINT clipping to me.

Seriously, would someone post how to determine if a clip is real or post mint damage (ie fraud). Thanks.
