Hi All, I am not sure how I found this site but I looked up my farthing and I believe is is the type E obverse. On the site it gives the following information for the farthing I think I have. Peck # 1858 Freeman # 499 I am not sure what these numbers refer to and just wanted to see if others agree with my designation? Also if anyone does know what those numbers refer to please enlighten me. Would this add any additional value over the usual if it is this type? http://www.aboutfarthings.co.uk/Far...%201860.htmlthanks malissa

I have a Freeman and a Peck, and the numbers refer to the actual number in their respective catalogues, but Freemans #499 is catalogued as obverse 2+ reverse B, whereas Peck #1858 says it is an obverse 4+ reverse B, both of these are the toothed, variety. Hope this helps.

Well done @Safi for digging out a thread that has not seen activity since 2009! In my copies of Freeman and Peck both F499 and Peck #1858 are Obverse 2 reverse B, so no contradiction there. The farthing website is now at: https://aboutfarthings.co.uk/catalo...60-farthing/This gives a refinement to Obverse 2a - the broken E in REG variant. Not sure if it also has T over T in BRITT as that bit is obscured by Photobucket.

I agree - I love all British coins, but the coppers and bronzes are much easier to get hold of in decent condition. My focus has been date runs and for all the coppers and bronzes (Pennies, halfpennies, farthings, half farthings, third farthings and quarter farthings) I have them all from Charles II through to decimalisation. Most are decent condition, some still require upgrades. I don't have all the Tin coins - just a few rather ropey examples. I certainly don't have all the varieties of coppers/bronzes - there are so many and they keep finding new ones! Some go for eye-watering prices.

tell me about it, I am still looking for a decent 1869, mine is very poor, but can still make out the date. In fact most of my 1860s and 1870s are very worn, but the prices for the good ones are way beyond my means.

I was fortunate enough to get most of my Vicky bronzes before the prices went crazy, many of them from bulk lots in auctions or at markets. I have all the bronze dates in decent condition, but not all the varieties. (That way lies insanity in my view!) A couple here to tease you with:
