I'm just starting to collect, and one thing I've discovered is that I'm a sucker for toned coins. The mint may have pounded out millions of these coins, but when a coin is toned, what I hold in my hand is one of a kind.

Here's my latest beauty. I hadn't planned to buy any coins (I was just there to get a couple AirTites) but when I saw the reverse I couldn't stop myself. I'm gonna have to stay out of coin shops once I've blown my coin budget!

Question: anybody else noticed that Morgans minted in New Orleans in 1884 seem to be toned quite often? I just saw a display with several 1884O's, all toned to some degree, and I already had a very nice rainbow 1884O.

Clean a coin many years ago, then stick it in a high sulfur paper envelope for many more years, and you get this beauty:





The hairlines are not nearly as visible in-hand; I chose the angles to accentuate the colors here.

This OGP proof set LMC has a completely rainbow toned right side obverse although I can't get good pics.



For $3.99 each, didn't have to think too long before picking up these attractive 1961 & 1962 Washington gems, both of which would easily slab MS65-MS66:

Here is the most pleasing of the Morgan dollars that I currently own. This coin was graded MS62 by ANACS, but I broke it out of its holder to better enjoy it's natural good looks. The photo is unretouched, taken without flash, only cropped, merged, and shrunk to fit the 300KB limit.
