Sweet! I live one side toned Morgans. For one thing, they are almost certainly NT (at least not heat treated) and like you say, they have something for everyone, if you don't like toned coins just turn it over.

I wish I could get a photo that really shows the colors. By the time I angle the camera to pick up the minty green in her cap, or the peachy tone of the wreath, it's also catching the glare from the light. I'd be tempted to crack it out of the slab, but until I'm more confident I know what I'm doing, I'm not going to risk hurting the value. Also, if not for the toning, I think the face would be DMPL, because the luster is quite brilliant and reflective (you can't see that in the photo, either). I'd actually think the whole thing is fake except that it's authenticated by ANACS (I know even the pros can be fooled, but I gotta think they are way less likely to be than I am!).

This dealer has another rainbow that I actually intended to buy until I saw this one. I have a birthday coming up. Guess what I'm buying?

Here is a proof nickel I removed from one of my sets. The Penny has a lot of tone as well. Sorry for the pics. I just point & shoot.

Twslisa, I love all toned coins, but have a special attraction to Morgans.
Don't crack it out, you can shoot through the slab and get excellent results. The folks in the photography section are real pros and can help lots quickly.
Also... Do you know what VAM it is?
Thanks for sharing.

Hi, Chute. I really wouldn't crack it out of the slab, tempting as it may be. I am totally camera illiterate, so a lot of the lingo in the photography section whooshes over my head, but I'll get there!

No, is it one? Been looking at that site that covers VAMs, but it's a bit overwhelming.

All Morgan and Peace dollars are a VAM.
In simplest terms, it's just an identifying designation for the dies and die condition.
It's all available when you are ready.
The important thing is that you learn at the pace you enjoy most.
And the '78-S series has some exciting VAMs.
