Ever since I became a member on this forum almost two months ago I've always wanted to post pics, however my camera is not powerful enough to take close up detailed pictures. Thus I'm now looking at getting a scanner so I will be able to share pictures of my coins with all of you. I was wondering what I need to look for when purchasing one and any details that go with my future purchase. Thanks!

Lets face it, scanners will never be as good as a digital camera. Something else you're gonna have to face...Coin collecting and photography go hand in hand. Start looking at digital cameras with a good macro...and lots of lights!.

There is a forum here that discusses all kinds of photography equipment and how to use it for taking pictures of coins. That is the best place I know of for the info you are seeking. I use a HP scanjet 3570c flat bed scanner and I can't post most of my RPMs and DDs because it just won't show the detail, and definately is not good for pictures of toned coins. Acidic1 is absolutely correct if you want to post quality pictures get some sort of digital camera with macros. I would visit the photo forum first and ask lots of questions.

For the price, I am happy with this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...a_oh_product

Easy to use and it hooks right up to you computer. In Case the link didn't work it is a Veho VMS-004 Discovery Series 400x USB Microscope. Fun to play with too!

Take care,
Tim
