I have an interesting Farthing from 1880, where one 8 in the date misses portions of the upper loop. The most plausible explanation would be a filled die, but this is also a common place for a date punch to break during this period. If it is a filled die, it's interesting how one side stops abruptly, and the other trails off to a fine point. What do you think?
