I am new to this site, and I am in need of help with a recent find.
I have an Abraham Lincoln coin, about the size of a quarter.
The face of the coin has his FRONT profile, not his right side profile. His name borders the rim, with his start president date on the left, and end on the right. In between the dates, and under his profile it says "The 16th president of the united states."
On the back of the coin has this text, in this order from top to bottom: "Abraham Lincoln...Born Feb. 12 1809."The Great Emancipator"; Courageous leader of the union during civil war; proclaimed the first thanksgiving day. Died April 15, 1865."
It's not a coin, but a medal. Privately struck, and probably part of a series of medals commemorating American presidents, or it may have been sold as a souvenir at a Lincoln-themed tourist spot.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
That's a little better than some of these, such as the president series offered by gas stations. Notice the relief in the portrait? That's a bit better than the current Presidential dollar coins.
