I just saw an auction on ebay for the sale of 2000 Lbs of American copper pennies. (wow!)

Is it legal to sell hordes of Canadian copper pennies to Americans?

Our copper penny is a little more pure. :)

I think selling and buying hugh amounts of copper pennies is OK (even cross-broder)

It is melting them for scrap or defacing them in any way in their native country, that is illegal in both Canada and the US.

Although, I don't think this applies to Canadians melting US coins in Canada for scrap or vice versa Americans melting Canadian coins in the USA.

defacing ( melting, cutting ect..)Money is Illegal, but if you are the seller then thats fine, as you cannot control what the buyer does once they are in possession of said money... Also if the scrap metal dealer wants to buy the stuff for melt value then he is the one who will be breaking the laws...

If that particular ebay seller were to sell to a Canadian, that would be illegal. The 2006 melt ban placed limits on exports by travelers of $5 and $100 for shipping coins with "legitimate coinage and numismatic purposes". However, the melt ban would not apply to a Canadian in Canada, you guys can melt as many as you can get. BTW, defacing US coinage for non fraudulent purposes is perfectly legal but defacing paper currency is not legal at all.
