Hi, I found an old(?) dollar in a book that I bought in a secondhand shop here in Sweden. I only wonder how old it is and if itīs worth something? =P I first thought that it was a fake or play money be cuss the size and the feel of it but I found the same type of dollars on google photos/pictures. But there is some difference like the sigil/certificate is not blue and the "black" side is not as black as the google pics, more like green as the other side. Is it a fake? I took 2 pictures of the dollar but they aren't so good (mobile camera): You probably don't see it in the pics but itīs in "perfect" condition and has only been folded some times in the center (only one way to). I can fix scans too if necessary.

Wow! Lucky you!
That's an old silver certificate and if it's real, it doesn't look to be in too bad a shape.
Someone else here can give you better details, but this is a keeper.

Welcome to the forum! If you don't receive any more pricing info today, I will look tonight when I get home to see what I can find for you. The ebay link is a Buy it now auction, so this may or may not reflect the going price for these. It's probably a good start though. You could also look at completed auctions on ebay and/or teletrade to see what some have sold for. Regardless, I can look tonight for you to see what book pricing is. A great find for sure, congrats.

I got better pics of the dollar, as you can see it doesn't have the same colors as the others? And the sigil/ the big "1" and serial nr are not blue? Can it be a fake or an older/newer version? Also there is many lines over the note, but it must be from the press be cuss it's the same color as the rest? (High-res scans at the end of post). Chump_ChangE: Thx Davest: haha, I bought the book for 1KR = 0.14~USD =P WpgLwr: hum, maybe, but that one has been folded more times and have many small cracks, but close yes. tights24 If you have time to look and help me I appreciate that, Iīm not so good at this :) I uploaded high-res scans, photos and a video where I flip it to show the folded parts (only one in the center, one way) rared 19mb: http://data.fuskbugg.se/skalman01/DSC00492 **(No Zip Files Allowed)**

I can't quite make it out, even with your bigger scans, but you state that the seal, 1 and serials are not blue. If they're not blue, what color are they?
Don't discount the possibility that the formerly blue ink may have reacted with the paper in the book it was found in, and changed color to an extent.

I clicked on your link, but I get nothing.
Anyway, what you seem to have here is an 1899 Silver Certificate. Yes, it's meant to be that large; such large notes are known as "horseblankets" because of their size.

WpgLwr: They are the same colors as the rest owe the note, did a pic to show (my is on the top): Maybe the book did something to the note, but the book is very old and there is a big chance that the note has been there the longest time, but there is no colors after it on the pages :/

Check the engraving of the note. Laser printer would be flat. Engraved would be raised ink, plus there would be more detail in the engraving.
I have my doubts... the wrinkles has the same color as the note. Some details and serial numbers are not solid (looks pixel-ly). The detail in the eagle is lacking as with the Capitol background and stars are missing on the US flag. The biggest sign is the missing blue and red fibers (there should be a column of them on the right of the "blue" 1 and underneath the "blue" seal.

I would agree with hc8604. I have one of these (1899) and it has the blue markings. Also the shading of the 1 on mine is made up of all horizontal lines and yours looks more diagonal and random.

I'd give you 50 bucks for the note <<Although this post probably just an opinion on the value of the note, please remember the forum rules regarding Buy/Sell/Trade.>>

hc8604: Yes, the note is wary "pixel-like", itīs even hard to read the text. Is there any way to see if it's real, you talk about raised ink, how would I see that? Did the notes have watermarks or something I can see with a lamp?
ScarecrowGifts: On one side there are horizontal and diagonal lines (if you look at dollar2.bmp). But they arenīt really random? You can easily se the pattern of squares =P
SammyBlade: Why would you buy something that isnīt guaranteed to be real? =P

I see what you mean about the diagonal lines. What is the year marked vertically on the right side?
