the general circulation was standard copper nickle , 20 million of them were minted, Not sure on proof coins maybe some were silver, however from your photos it looks like a circulating coin, still a great coin though

just looked up, there is a silver proof, value around AU $30

thanks neild, yes it's circulated coin, got it in a bar in Melbourne 1982, havent let go of it since. What year is the silver proof issue? thanks!

The proof coin was issued in the 1989 Masterpieces in Silver 50c collection. It is dated 1989.

G'day, I don't follow NCLT. The only Australian circulating coin featuring Princess Di is the one you have.
She also featured on coins of a lot of other countries.

copy, thanks Peter, it's a beautiful coin, I noticed that immediately, even if I was a little bit on the happy side on that bar, I still managed to put it safely in my pocket, and that was the happy ending there for that particular coin

Dibby33, you can still find them if you search enough 50c, but this one and the '91 rams head are pretty hard to find.

...that was the best find of the 5 rolls. Have to check for double bars - I forgot about them. must add that check to the list!
