I just received this Lincoln Cent:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:IT

I really broke a lot of my personal rules in getting this coin. This is my first and only slabbed coin. Paid more than $20 on e-bay. Buy from a seller with so few sales (feedback was good, but mostly a buyer). Buy an item with NO RETURNS.

All turned out well. I do like the coin (not the slab). Now, what is your opinions on the coin and price paid.

You got a great deal. I bought mine for $50 raw, I gave it a PR-68. Why don't you like the slab? It's PCGS, nothing wrong with that.

I should add that the PCGS price guide puts T2 67 RD at $75:

You can't see from the photo, but it has just enough spotting to make it 67 and not 68. My opinion plus my trusted coin shop dealer's also.

I guess I am just from another age of collecting when it comes to slabs.

I thought this was just another way to add value to a coin. But that doesn't seem to be the case, when you spend so much to slab it and then get about the same price as raw.

So, the marketers said it's a better investment because all is well with slabbed coins. I am a collector and not an investor. My great-great grandson will be joining here saying "I just got these coins from my grandfather and I was wondering if they are worth anything". Sorry, Kid, your great-greatgrandfather collected common copper cents from circulation.

I like handling the coin and filling that hole in a book. By the way, why 1974S type II in the dansco album? Now I'm sounding like Just Carl, but he at least he's always correct.

Thanks for the reply -- Terrell

LOL, I agree and I don't like slabs either. However, I'm thinking of my kids someday when I do slab a coin. You never know if they will someday have to sell your collection for money. If that day comes, hopefully they will have something a little more concrete and won't get taken.

That coin is the second toughest 1981-S T2, after the hideously expensive SBA dollar. Here is my opinion on the slab- I personally would not have bought that coin from pictures if it was not in a slab- proper attribution on the 81s is much tougher than on the 79s, the difference is not as dramatic. Based on those photos, I cannot tell what type of mint mark it is and I would not buy it if it was not in a slab and properly attributed. If I had it in hand, I would be able to differentiate the two.
