Sent a few world coins to DGS this morning to see how they do. One could use 'conservation' (there is.. "stuff" on it, not real sure what it is, kind of looks like paint in a way) so I also requested that. One is getting the variety verified.. but it's not a widely known one as it is not in the 'best known' attribution guide, only in the 2nd best known. So.. we'll see

Anyone else sent world coins to them? How did your coins fare?

Care to elaborate on the coin? I'm always interested in world varieties.

Hi artdio.. yes and no. The name is new, but the people behind it are not. They stopped grading under the PCI name and started a new company. The people behind it have quite a bit of knowledge.

Launch announcement; http://www.coinlink.com/News/genera...ly-launched/

Their site: http://www.dominiongrading.com

It will take a while for them to establish their name among the big boys, but they are trying. I sent the coins in to them to see how their grading is on world coins - someone else submitted some Lincoln cents to them in an earlier thread and show the grading result. Here's that post: https://goccf.com/t/47553&whichpage=1

DGS is an evolved version of the old PCI grading service. David Lawrence Rare Coins(DLRC) purchased the intellectual and physical property of PCI a few years ago and restarted it is a new TPG. DLRC is a dealer and auction house so as to not have the appearance of saturating the market with their own coins, all DLRC coins graded by DGS have a "D" listed at the end of the serial number to differentiate them from public submissions. From what I have seen DGS has been significantly more stringent in grading than PCI was but one thing they did continue was the Signature Series where experts on a particular series grade and attribute a coin and sign the label, coppercoins is the expert for Lincoln cents. Another nice feature is that any coin graded that is valued over $100 is imaged and placed on their website for photo verification. They have only been around for ~2 years now but I think their reputation will build.

I hate it when I do that. The variety that doesn't exist in the major book went to ANACS (sent 2 to them this morning as well). DV, it's a Canada 1893 one cent narrow date. Not in Charlton - only in Charest ..which they may not recognize.

The variety verification sent to DGS is more convoluted - it's the Newfoundland 1899 20c small 9's. I have 2 - I sent them the lower grade one There is some debate on small, large, and also hooked, 9's.. some think one is a later die state of the other, etc.

Nice! The difference in the style of 9s is dramatic.

I don't actually have them back yet - I just got the other 2 pictures from DGS's site. I put those 2 in the grading forum:
