I was hoping to get a grade on this coin please. I am not certain how to grade once the coin has darkened this way and also do not have any other examples to compare to. Sorry if the pics are not the greatest, I am not the most steady of hands tonight.

thanks all!

Black zinc coins are always tricky to grade - I always tend to severely undergrade them in hand, simply because they look ugly.

Nevertheless, this one seems to be devoid of serious corrosion - there's just one little spot in the beading next to the lower tip of the lion's tail that I'm worried about. I'd call it gVF - make it an American EF.

I would grade this at EF-40.

I seldom see these zinc issues in such nice shape.
EF looks like a reasonable grade. And it's a lower mintage coin for the series.
My Krause gives $10 in VF and $18 in EF.

Yep, and EF. This is pretty nice for a zinc coin!

thanks everyone! We were thinking EF too but the darkness of the coin kind of threw me off. :)
