I was wondering if this 1843 half dollar is a proof strike?

What makes you think it might be a proof? 1843 is a common date for business strikes and only 6 proofs are known, all specimens have a bisecting reverse die crack from ES of STATES to LF of HALF. Even on a heavily circulated proof coin, I would expect the rims and other details to be stronger so I would have to say it is almost certainly not a proof. Unless you can find some trace of the die crack, then nothing says it is anything more than a well circulated business strike.
