Congrats! I know you have been working on this set for some time. So what's next? Quote: I wonder if there are any other people with this set completed? I think I have mentioned before that I have been working on a circulating coinage type set for the Seychelles. It is not a high priority though. I currently have 33 of the 52 different varieties that I have identified. A good portion of what I am missing are 1977 coins.

Here is the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...ht_694wt_939The total predecimal Seychelles set has 83 different coins ranging from 1948 to 1974. The lowest mintage is 2500 and the highest mintage is 2,350,000. By far the majority have mintages less than 100,000. I know these are not US coins, but these things are phenomenally scarce. Now, I just need to convince Dansco to make an album! I now have predecimal sets from Fiji, New Guinea, and Seychelles. Anyone see a pattern developing here?

Quote: Anyone see a pattern developing here? Hmmm.. maybe NZ next. Pre decimals only went from 1933 - 1965 Australia's a bit more complicated..1910 - 1964
life is a mystery to be lived not a problem to be solved

I was considering NZ, possibly Malaya, maybe Mauritius. I've got a start on each, but the NZ set seems the most doable. I'll have to see what I've got and what I'd need. Does Dansco make albums for NZ? I've also considered dabbling in British West Africa or East Africa. I agree that Australia is a bit overwhelming, and a lot more people collect it thus driving up the prices.

To give a rough idea of what it would cost to build a complete date set of Australian pre-decimals, a set graded VG would cost roughly $30,000. If you took out three coins, you could bring that down around $1000.

I just checked and the NZ predecimal seems to have a total of 191 different circulation coins. I have 101 different ones currently. This is an obtainable set (minus the 1935 Crown). Looks like I have a new challenge!

I finally received my 1969 10 cent coin from Seychelles. I was really holding my breath. If it had gotten lost on its way from the UK I would have been really unhappy! Now I have a complete predecimal set in a Dansco 7070 album. Not as good as a preprinted album, but the 7070 is an alright alternative for the set.

I accidentally found my next set and purchased it in a single transaction. In the theme of my other British colonial sets, I got the entire pre-republic set from Gambia. Every coin, both mint and proof. Since there are only 14 total coins, not a huge set but some really neat coins.

Pence - shillings - florins - crowns - pounds as opposed to 1 dollar (or whatever else) = 100 cents

The Seychelles pre-decimal set was one I completed in High School. I liked it because the coins had very low mintages and at the time most were available in high grades for under $5. Of course when I was in High School there were fewer coins. I recall the 1939 Rupee in AU cost me $5. I did not do the proofs. My set went up to 1964. It was part of a small islands set I was forming. The smaller ones like Lundy (2 coins) were interesting even if they were unofficial. I also did Nantucket (2 coins) which is considered an illegal issue by US authorities. I got 2 sets of those the year they were issued at face value. I also did Greenland, Guernsey and Jersey. In all cases, I did the earlier issues before conversion to decimal coinage because - they didn't have decimals back then. The last island coin I bought was 1966 Guernsey 10 Shilling.
I gave up the islands, along with most other coins when I was in College - money was too limited for much coin collecting. When I finally resumed collecting after the Navy in 1970 I began with early US and Mexican.

I'm glad to see at least someone else interested in such a strange place as Seychelles. However, the hardest coins to get were made after 1964.

I collect whatever I can find! Everything interests me, but I am not one for spending $200 on a coin. I think my most expensive would be about $40.
I like building sets of circulating coins and have done well for the countries I have lived in. Unfortunatly I was not a coin collector when in the US, but it got me on my way. However I think my asia/africa/middle east folder has been thrown away. It was at my parents house while I was in austria and they redecorated and has not been seen since. Luckily it was not worth that much, but STILL I was angry!
